The Red Imps Story

Founded in 1976 by Charlie Polson and the late Charles Head, few could have imagined that this Fourth Division side would grow into the most successful football club in Gibraltar's history. A golden era in the 1980s and a record 14 consecutive league titles between 2003 and 2016 built the foundation for 30 Gibraltar National League titles — the latest won in 2025/26. In 2014 they were the first club from Gibraltar to compete in the UEFA Champions League qualifying stage.

Lincoln Red Imps have built their legacy on the Rock of Gibraltar itself — a natural fortress that has stood firm through centuries of history and tested many of Europe's finest football sides.

In 2016 the club shocked world football by beating Celtic FC 1–0 in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round — the so-called "Shock of Gibraltar." In 2021/22 they became the first Gibraltar club in a European group stage (Conference League), and in 2025/26 they made history again — becoming the first Gibraltarian side to win a UEFA group stage match, defeating Lech Poznań 2–1.

Lincoln Red Imps grew from a Fourth Division side founded in 1976 into the most successful football club in Gibraltar's history — a story of ambition, stability, and a long-term commitment to homegrown talent.

1976
The Beginning

Founded by Charlie Polson and the late Charles Head, Lincoln emerged from a group of players connected to the Blue Batons — the Gibraltar Police's youth team — and entered senior football in Gibraltar's Fourth Division.

1984/85
First Top-Flight Title

Lincoln reached Gibraltar's top division and won the league championship in its first season at that level.

1984–1994
The First Golden Era

Seven league championships were secured during this period, backed by growing investment in the club's Youth Programme.

2003–2016
14 In A Row

Lincoln won 14 consecutive Gibraltar league titles, breaking the previous domestic record of nine in a row — built on vision, stability and homegrown talent.

Lincoln Red Imps FC currently play their home matches at Europa Point Stadium, located at the southern tip of Gibraltar with spectacular views over the Straits of Gibraltar and the North African coast — a temporary home while the National Stadium, Victoria Stadium, is rebuilt.

The Lincoln Red Imps Academy is the heartbeat of the club's future. We are committed to providing Gibraltar's young players with a professional footballing environment — the same culture of excellence, hard work, and ambition that has driven the first team to 30 league titles and European competition.

Our academy players train in the same environment as first-team professionals, absorbing the standards and values of Gibraltar's most decorated football club. Many of our current first-team squad — including Jaylan Hankins — came through youth football in Gibraltar and represent the pathway every academy player aspires to.

From Academy to Victoria Stadium

The Lincoln Red Imps Academy exists to feed the first team. Players who develop the right qualities — technically, physically, and mentally — have a genuine pathway into professional football in Gibraltar and beyond. Lee Casciaro is the ultimate example: a product of the Lincoln youth ranks who went on to become Gibraltar's greatest ever footballer, a one-club legend, and the man who scored the goal that shocked Celtic and the world in 2016. He shows exactly what is possible when talent meets the right environment.
