Full Report

The opening stages were an evenly contested affair, with neither side able to create a clear opening before Mons Calpe took the lead in the 15th minute. Diego Diaz Alvarez's effort took a deflection on its way towards goal, taking it beyond Jaylan Hankins and into the top corner to put them ahead.

The Imps looked to respond and came close to an equaliser five minutes before the break when Alex Mula's long-range effort was saved by Oliwier Oleksiewicz. Mons Calpe nearly doubled their advantage just before half-time, but Hankins produced an excellent save to deny Pablo Cortijo and ensure we went into the interval just one goal behind.

Juanma Pavón made a change at the break, with Ayman Elghobashy replacing Alvaro Romero, and the attacking change paid dividends. Mula picked up possession outside the box before firing a low effort towards the bottom corner. This time, Oleksiewicz was unable to keep it out as the ball found the back of the net to bring the Imps level.

We almost completed the comeback shortly afterwards. In the 58th minute, Leon Mason delivered a dangerous cross towards the back post which was met by Christian Rutjens, but Oleksiewicz was equal to the header.

The chances continued to come.

Kike latched onto a through ball in the 66th minute, rounded the goalkeeper and saw his effort strike the post. The loose ball fell back into danger before Mons Calpe captain Ethan Llambias cleared it onto the post as well, with the hosts somehow surviving.

Pavón made further changes as Facundo and Nico Pinto replaced Mason and Mula in the 74th minute, before Toledano and Jolley came on for Julliani and Torrilla late on.

The Imps pushed for a winner in added time and came agonisingly close twice. Bernardo Lopes and Nano both saw efforts denied by Oleksiewicz, who produced a crucial double save to ensure Mons Calpe held on for a point.

The result sees the Imps head into a lengthy international break, with the squad given an opportunity to recharge after a demanding European campaign. We return to action on Sunday 11 October, when we take on Europa FC.
