Alex Mula scored a spectacular brace as we secured a 2-1 victory over Lynx to maintain our unbeaten start to the Gibraltar Football League season.
After dominating much of the first half, we finally made the breakthrough in the 41st minute. Mula stepped up to take a free-kick from long range and produced a stunning strike that flew into the top corner, leaving Lynx goalkeeper Jamie Robba with no chance and giving us a deserved 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Mula doubled our advantage in the 56th minute with an extraordinary effort from the halfway line. Picking up possession deep inside our own half, the winger drove forward unchallenged before spotting Robba off his line and producing an audacious lob that sailed over the goalkeeper and into the net to make it 2-0.
Head coach Juanma Pavón made all five of his substitutions as we looked to build on our advantage, introducing Toni García, Joe, Jay Coombes, Ethan Britto and Kike.
Despite our dominance, Lynx pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute through Denis Cabeza to set up a tense finale. However, Lynx's hopes of finding an equaliser suffered a further setback when Cabeza was shown a red card following an off-the-ball incident involving Gabri Cardozo.
We remained composed in the closing stages to see out the contest and secure another important three points, extending our unbeaten start to the domestic campaign with four wins from our opening five Gibraltar Football League matches.
Attention now turns to European football as we prepare to welcome Dutch giants FC Twente to Europa Point Stadium for Matchday 2 of the UEFA Conference League, with another exciting European night awaiting the Imps and our supporters.
