We suffered a 4-1 defeat against Dutch side FC Twente at Europa Point Stadium on Thursday evening in our second UEFA Conference League league phase fixture, despite a free-kick from Nano, which saw him become the oldest goalscorer in the competition's history.

The visitors made a strong start to the encounter, putting our defence under pressure in the opening stages. Twente broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Thomas van den Belt latched onto a pass from Wout Weghorst before firing past Jaylan Hankins to give the Dutch side the lead.

Five minutes later, the visitors doubled their advantage through former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst, leaving us with an uphill task midway through the first half.

Despite the early setbacks, we continued to battle and were rewarded in the 38th minute when Julliani Eersteling won a free-kick in a dangerous position outside the penalty area. Nano stepped up and produced a brilliant left-footed strike to pull a goal back and reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The goal was also a historic moment for Nano, who became the oldest player to score in the UEFA Conference League, surpassing the previous record held by Edin Džeko.

With renewed belief, we looked to build on our goal before the interval, with Alex Mula coming close to finding an equaliser as his effort from outside the area narrowly missed the target.

We went into the half-time break trailing 2-1, with everything still to play for heading into the second half.

The visitors continued to threaten after the restart and restored their two-goal advantage in the 57th minute when Van den Belt grabbed his second of the evening, finishing from close range following a delivery from Bart van Rooij.

Head coach Juanma Pavón responded by introducing Manuel Toledano and Toni García in place of Kike and Álvaro Romero as we searched for a way back into the contest.

Further changes followed as Facundo Álvarez replaced Alex Mula, while Nico Pinto came on for Yussef Flalhi as we looked to inject fresh energy into the closing stages.

Despite our efforts, Twente continued to create opportunities, with Hankins producing an important save to deny Weghorst late in the second half.

Toni García also tested visiting goalkeeper Joël Drommel with an effort from distance in stoppage time, but the Dutch side added a fourth goal moments later when substitute Daouda Weidmann found the top corner from outside the penalty area to complete the scoring.

Although the result was disappointing, Nano's historic goal provided a memorable moment on another European night at Europa Point Stadium.

We now turn our attention to our upcoming fixtures as we look to respond positively and continue competing in the UEFA Conference League.
